Slate is a macOS-first local reader for result files.
Markdown reports, JSON payloads, JSONL logs, plain text notes, and CSV or TSV tables can be opened as readable local documents instead of code.
What Slate does:
- Opens Markdown, JSON, JSONL / NDJSON, YAML, TXT / LOG, CSV, and TSV files. - Keeps file reading local by default. - Provides reader-first Markdown rendering with Raw and light edit fallback. - Displays local Markdown images when the user authorizes the containing folder. - Shows JSON, JSONL, and YAML with a structured reading view. - Searches within Markdown, JSON, JSONL, and YAML readers; Command-G and Shift-Command-G move to the next or previous match. - Adds an Info Bar with file path, word / character count, and outline where available. - Lets readers navigate Markdown sections, return to one reading point after a section jump, and restore the last reading position when reopening a Markdown document. - Includes reading themes for different reading contexts. - Supports Quick Look preview for Markdown files.
What Slate is not:
- Not a full IDE. - Not a PDF, DOCX, or browser preview replacement.
Slate is built for people who frequently inspect local notes, reports, structured data, and result files on macOS.
